Intel has announced Intel One Mono, a new font catering to "the needs of developers" with an "expressive" monospace for clarity and legibility" It's easier to read, and available for free, with an open-source font license. Identifying the typographically underserved low-vision developer audience, Frere-Jones Type designed the Intel One Mono typeface in partnership with the Intel Brand Team and VMLY&R, for maximum legibility to address developers' fatigue and eyestrain and reduce coding errors. A panel of low-vision and legally blind developers provided feedback at each stage of design. The Linux blog OMG! Ubuntu calls the new font "pretty decent," adding that "Between IBM Plex Mono, Hack, Fira Code, and JetBrains Mono I think we Linux users are spoilt for choice when it comes to open-source monospace fonts that look good and work great. "Still, there's always room for more, right...?" Better yet, it's not only free to download and use but free to edit, and free to redistribute... Overall, I think Intel One Mono looks great, especially in a text editor (GUI or CLI). There's a noticeable upper and lower margin to the font that in dense text situations allows text to breathe, but in some terminal tools, like Neofetch, the gaps can seem a bit too happy. The Intel One Mono repository on GitHub includes instructions for activating the font in VSCode and Sublime Text, and lists some extra features accessible in some applications and via CSS: There is an option for a raised colon, either applied contextually between numbers or activated generally. Superior/superscript and inferior/subscript figures are included via their Unicode codepoints, or you can produce them from the default figures via the sups (Superscript), subs (Subscript), and si (Scientific Inferior) features. Fraction numerals are similarly available via the numr (Numerator) and dnom (Denominator) features. A set of premade fractions is also available in the fonts.

This is the Couchmaster CYBOT, an allegedly ergonomic laptop desk for use while on the couch. It costs $120, can comfortably accommodate laptops up to 17-inches, and includes a ventilating grill below your computer, integrated mousepad and wrist pads, a side pocket for storing your charging cables and other peripherals, a universal tablet holder, and pixelated camouflage exterior. Pretty sweet, right? It kind reminds me of one of those breakfast in bed platters, except instead of eating scrambled eggs and toast in bed you're masturbating on the sofa. With the recent arrival of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" to Netflix, the internet was again seized by one of the most squabbled-over animes of all time. But if there is anything about NGE that the internet can agree on, it's that the opening theme song and video, "A Cruel Angel's Thesis", totally kicks ass. Its hyper-paced and heavily-layered editing is at once prototypical AMV eye-candy, while also being a solid narrative deconstruction of a show you'll never really understand. As with other anime fan edits, it quickly became popular to re-cut other anime in the same style. But it was its discursive potential, mixed with the totally over-the-top tunes, that made the "Cruel Angel's Edit" such a powerful meme outside of anime, and has inspired a series of truly high-effort good-posts over the years re-rendering all aspects of culture. The Land of Make-Believe is closer than many people realize. In fact, some of its residents live, without much notice, on the top floor of the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum.

As you turn the corner after arriving on that floor, the puppets from Fred Roger’s beloved Children’s Show, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, appear before you. These original puppets are King Friday XIII, Queen Sarah, Henrietta Pussycat, X the Owl, Lady Elaine Fairchilde, Daniel Tiger, and Grandpere.

The Land of Make-Believe was a way for Rodgers to talk about difficult topics in a way that children could understand and relate to. He performed many of the puppet personalities himself. They were part of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which was one of the first children’s television programs aimed at helping children’s development. The show ran from 1963 to 2001 and was only off the air for one year (1967).

The puppets aren’t the only Mister Rogers props within the museum. Others are sprinkled throughout its exhibits like little easter eggs for both kids and kids-at-heart. On a bench in the “Attic” exhibit, under a plexiglass box, are Roger’s signature sneakers and a tiny plaque. Most people don’t know they’re there and pass right by. Outside of the “Makeshop,” a craft area in the museum, is Roger’s iconic red sweater.

Though Pittsburgh is heavily connected to Rogers—the Pennsylvania native lived and died within the city—these exhibits are barely mentioned on the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum website and hardly appear in traditional tourist advertising, meaning these childhood treasures are basically hidden away in plain sight!

Last year I built a mini NES console using a Raspberry Pi, an NFC reader and a 3D-printed case.
An obvious follow-up project would be to make a mini SNES with the Raspberry Pi.


I probably have more childhood fondness for the Super Nintendo than I do the original NES.
Some of my best gaming memories are playing co-op Turtles in Time and Diddy's Kong Quest with my brother.

I grew-up with the Super Famicom-style European SNES and only learned about the markedly different North American model as an adult much later...

This fascinated me, there's such a contrast between the two styles. I wanted to make a mini version of both.
